Comments: I don't have a broad base of experience where Cuban cigars are concerned, but I can tell you what I like. My limited exposure tells me that this is at the very least, a good cigar. The Pinar P300 is a handsome stick, with a somewhat veiny, glossy maduro wrapper. It's bouquet was definitely influenced by the age of the tobacco, over 50 years, exhibiting a very mild sweetness without much of the earthiness or barnyard as it is sometimes referred to. The firm construction caused me to wonder how well it would draw, but upon lighting I found the draw to be excellent, giving up wonderful volumes of smoke having a sweet aroma not unlike its bouquet, producing an almost white ash that held firm to more than two inches! The medium to full bodied flavor I found a little difficult to define, but I would best describe as exceptionally smooth, having a sweet spiciness with a note of peppermint that remained consistent to the very end. The cigar finished to the nub as smooth as it started. Overall, an enjoyable experience.
History: (From Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars, 2006) Not listed. I understand that this cigar line comes from a 46,000 pound stash of pre-embargo Cuban Ligero from Cuba's Pinar region, located in a warehouse owned by the estate of Murray Grossman, a Tampa-based cigar maker who died in the early 1960s, then under the auspices of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, was exported to Ecuador by Paul Magier, owner of Puros de Armando Ramos, to be rolled and then re-imported to the US for sale here. Puros de Armando Ramos paid $2,500,000, or $54.35 per pound for this rare tobacco. It appears that 2007 may be the last year that the P3000, made of this stash, will be available. If you know this information to be incorrect, please let me know. I purchased my P3000s from Stag Tobacconist, 4109 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. (719) 633-0669. Handmade in Guayaquil, Ecuador of pre-embargo Cuban ligero.
