Comments: Removing the sleeve revealed a finely veined, smooth, glistening Colorado maduro colored wrapper, with only slight color variation, beautiful to say the least. The words Oro Rojo on the band means "Red Gold", a reference to the cigars reddish colored wrapper. I was greeted with a definite barnyard bouquet (a good thing) and upon lighting, a pleasingly sweet aroma. The start was very smooth having a medium-bodied taste of sweet cream and notes of cedar, finishing with a fuller body. My only very minor complaint was that the draw started out a little tight but improved to my satisfaction about a quarter of the way into the cigar. The Gold's burn was perfectly even for the entire length producing a firm light gray ash that would hold to an inch plus with no problem. For the $4.00 that Cigar International is asking... this cigar is a steal.
History: (From Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars, 2006) This is a totally new formulation of the Royal Jamaican brand, introduced by Altadis USA in 2004. It offers a medium-to-full bodied taste and is elegantly presented in individual sleeves in boxes of 25. Handmade in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
